POMONA -- A pair of goals from Cal State East Bay's Zuly Diaz was the difference in the Pioneers' 2-0 win over Cal Poly Pomona in California Collegiate Athletic Association women's soccer Sunday at Kellogg Field.
The loss was CPP's third straight as it is now 6-4 overall and 2-4 in the CCAA.
Cal State East Bay (2-6-3 and 1-4-2) won its first game after going 0-3-6 in its last nine games.
Diaz put the Pioneers on the scoreboard in the game's 5th minute when she placed herself on the right side of the net and brought to the left of Broncos goalkeeper Ashley Salerno. Claudia Luna earned the assist.
The game remained a one-goal difference until Diaz scored against in the 58th minute. After receiving the ball form Shianna Falk, she punched it again past the left side of Salerno.
Senior Mary Carroll had two shots (both SOG) for CPP as the Broncos mustered 17 shots to CSUEB's nine. Both teams had five SOG.
Nina Cefalo had five saves for her first shutout of the season.
The Broncos return to Kellogg Field on Friday with a 7 p.m. game against Cal State Dominguez Hills. The Broncos defeated the Toros on Sept. 13 when they rallied from a 3-0 deficit to win 4-3 in double OT. It marked the first time in school history that CPP had come back from a three-goal deficit.
