Box Score: No. 20 CPP vs. Cal State San Bernardino

POMONA
– Cal Poly Pomona couldn't find an answer on stopping Cal State San Bernardino's Bryan LeDuc and the visiting Coyotes were dominant off the glass Tuesday night as CSUSB defeated the No. 20 Broncos 66-58 in California Collegiate Athletic Association men's basketball.

LeDuc scored a game-high 25 points with 17 rebounds that included 10 off the offensive glass to give the Coyotes (8-3 overall, 6-1 CCAA) their first win at Kellogg Gym in six years.

The Broncos lost their first game at home in their last 12 games. The Broncos' last loss was to San Francisco State last season.

Cal Poly Pomona fought back from a six-point deficit when freshman guard Mitchel Anderson drained a 3-pointer from the left-wing to push CPP up, 56-54 with 2:18 remaining.

But the Coyotes outscored the Broncos 12-2 down the stretch to earn the victory.

The Coyotes' Aaron Hill drove the lane on their possession and was fouled by junior Donnelle Booker, who picked up his fifth foul. Hill hit both ends to tie the game.

Anderson brought the ball up and lost control in the backcourt, and LeDuc 18 seconds later with a 3-pointer from the deep right corner and CSUSB remained out front for the game. They hit seven of eight free throws inside the final 47 seconds.

It was a well-played game by both teams. The Broncos held the edge with their 54.1-percent effort from the floor (20-of-37), but the Coyotes dominated off the glass, outrebounding their foe 35-20 with an eye-popping 20 on the offensive end and along with the rebounding edge, outscored CPP 22-4 on second-chance shots.

They also turned the ball over just five times.

Anderson led the Broncos (7-3, 5-2) with 14 points off the bench. He was 5-of-8 from the field, hit three 3-pointers and had two steals, one block and one assist.

Senior Austin Swift scored 13 points and point guard Dahir Nasser had 10 with five assists.
The game featured 11 lead changes with five ties.

CPP, which led 29-28 at halftime, pushed its lead to 36-28 on Booker's layup with 16:55 remaining.
A three-pointer from Anderson lifted CPP up, 39-32, but LeDuc opened a 9-1 run over the next three minutes and CSUSB led 41-40 with 12:31 left.

Swift later hit a 3-pointer that gave the Broncos a 44-41 lead, but LeDuc was a nemesis again, hitting a pair of field goals that included a dunk that opened a 9-0 run and pushed CSUSB ahead, 50-44 with 6:47 left.

A 3-pointer from reserve Mark Rutledge ended the run and the Broncos clawed back and eventually grabbed the lead when Anderson hit his third 3 of the night.

The Broncos return to Kellogg Gym on Friday night when they play host to Cal State Dominguez Hills. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.

BRONCO NOTES: The loss was just the ninth time in 98 games that CPP shot more than 50 percent and lost during Greg Kamansky's 10-years at the helm… The Broncos are now 106-19 at home during Coach K's run… It marked the first time this season that Anderson led the Broncos in scoring… LeDuc's scoring and rebounding efforts are season-highs against the Broncos.
