Box Score: CPP vs. CSU Dominguez Hills
POMONA – Stingy defense has become the calling card for the 2009-10 Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball team.
The Broncos forced 26 turnovers and allowed just four field goals in the first half as they defeated visiting Cal State Dominguez Hills 55-45 on a historic night in California Collegiate Athletic Association play Friday night.
Junior guard
Reyana Colson scored a game-high 23 points with 10 rebounds for her 13th career double-double as CPP became just the second team in Division II to win 800 victories. She also had five steals in 38 minutes of play.
The Broncos, who have now won six straight and seven of their last eight, never trailed in their game and led by as many 16 points (43-27).
The game was a foul-plagued one, as both teams combined for 46 fouls. CPP finished 23-of-39 from the free throw line and the Toros were 14 of 16.
Senior
Stephisha Walton also reached double figures with 11. She had three steals.
CPP held the Toros without a field goal over a 12-minute span that ended the first half. CSUDH finished the night on 14-of-50 field goals (28 percent) and were just 3-of-15 from 3-point land.
Neka Mixon led the Toros (4-9, 3-5) with 12 points and Brandie McCann had 11.
The Broncos return to Kellogg Gym on Saturday night when they take on Cal State L.A. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
BRONCO NOTES: Colson has now scored 973 points in her career.
