SEASIDE -- Michelle Santizo scored a 3-pointer that snapped a late run by Cal Poly Pomona and the Cal State Monterey Otters went on to a 60-54 win over the Broncos in California Collegiate Athletic Association women's basketball play Saturday night.
The Broncos had their eight-game winning streak snapped and completed the first half of CCAA play at 12-3 overall and 9-2 in league play. The Otters are 11-4, 7-4.
CPP, which trailed throughout the second half, made a spirited run to get back into the game. Trailing 49-38 with 6:58 left, CPP went on a 10-0 run and cut CSUMB's lead to 49-48 on Megan Ford's free throws with 2:02 left.
But Santizo hit the three with 1:41 left and that gave the Otters the momentum down the stretch. They hit eight of nine free throws in the final minute and a half for the victory.
Stephisha Walton led CPP with 18 points and nine rebounds. Ford had nine points and junior
Reyana Colson was held to less than 10 points for only the second time this season. She scored eight points and grabbed eight rebounds.
Santizo and Helen Suarez each had 14 for the Otters.
CPP next plays at UC San Diego on Thursday night.
