Box Score: No. 22 CPP vs. Sonoma State

POMONA
– No. 22 Cal Poly Pomona fired a season-best 56.8 percent from the floor and led throughout most of its game against visiting Sonoma State to earn a 74-60 California Collegiate Athletic Association victory Friday night before a crowd of 708 at Kellogg Gym.

The victory was CPP's 10th straight at home over a two-year period.

Junior Donnelle Booker led CPP with his second-straight 17-point effort and sophomore Dwayne Fells scored a career-high 16 points. Junior Tobias Jahn also reached double digits with 11 points.

The Broncos were 25-of-44 from the floor to surpass their previous season-best 53.1 percent against Vanguard.

The Broncos, now 6-2 overall and 4-1 in the CCAA, put the game away in the second half, hitting 11-of-18 from the floor (61 percent) and led by more than 10 for most of the game.

A three-point play by Fells gave CPP its largest lead of the game at 56-38 with 9:16 left. The Seawolves never got closer than eight points when Will Olsem hit a three with 56 seconds left.

Booker was 7-of-12 from the floor and threw down two slam dunks. He also had six rebounds with two steals and two assists.

Olsem led SSU (3-9 and 2-5) with 13 points on four 3-pointers. Mike Nelson was the only other Seawolf to reach double digits with 10.

Nelson gave SSU its largest lead of the game after his 3-pointer put the Seawolves out front, 8-5 with 16:56 remaining in the first half. But a quick 8-0 spurt led by Austin Swift's two field goals, a pair of free throws from Jahn and a layup from Booker put CPP in command with 14:41 left.

Olsen hit another 3-pointer to put the score 13-11 CPP, but a workman-like 9-2 run extended the Broncos out front, 22-13 and the Broncos were in command.

CPP next faces Humboldt State on Saturday night. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
