Broncos defeat Otters in 5

MONTEREY BAY -  WOW!  Defeated by CSUMB (3-0) in Darlene May Gym a month ago, and facing a 2-0 deficit in the unfriendly confines of “The Kelp Bed,” at CSU Monterey Bay currently second in the CCAA, the Broncos faced a fight or flight situation.  The Broncos responded to the ultimate challenge.   The Broncos mustered a hard-charging rally and defeated the Otters in five games – 25-27, 22-25, 25-22, 25-14, 16-14.

After dropping the first two games, Cal Poly Pomona rallied to win games three and four behind the hitting of Sinead Palmer and Lindsey Poulos.   After a back-and-forth game five, the Broncos faced a match point close-out at 12-14, but the Broncos would not be denied.  A “kill” sequence of McNeese-Lake-McNeese-Lake turned the match around as the Broncos turned the tables on the Otters and closed out the match with four consecutive kills.  The Broncos travel to San Francisco State for a key CCAA re-match on Saturday.

"The energy was extremely high tonight, even as we dropped the first two games,” commented head coach Rosie Wegrich.   “We gathered ourselves between games two and three and everyone on the team accepted the challenge going forward.  We learned a lot about our team tonight and when we play with confidence and compete point for point, good things happen.  I am proud of our entire team.”
