POMONA, Calif. – On Friday the Broncos met with the Otters of Cal State Monterey Bay at Kellogg Field, with the sun high and the weather clear. Jonathan Enns scored two goals on the day, guiding the Cal Poly Pomona men's soccer team to a 3-0 home victory over CSUMB. Freshman goalkeeper Andrew Todd made six stops en route to his first career shutout.
The Broncos would start off the game with a corner kick by Juan Mejia to the top of the box where Enns would be waiting to take a shot through the Otters defense and just over the goalie's hands into the back of the net, scoring the Broncos' first goal at 9:38 in the game.
Throughout the game the Broncos would find many more opportunities to score but the shots just would not finish. It wasn't until the 86th minute when on a breakaway by Justin Valashinas up the middle to find Jonathan Enns to his left for a quick dish and goal. Enns' second goal would put the Broncos up 2-0, but the Broncos were not done yet. The final goal by the Broncos was by Fabian Perez at 89:39 on a nice pass from teammate Nick Costanza.
In the end the Broncos opened the game strong with a goal at 9:39 and finished with two goals in the last four minutes. Between those goals the Broncos and Otters had a shooting fest. The Broncos finished the game with 23 shots and the Otters ended with 13 attempts. With the win, the Broncos improve to 4-4-1 in the CCAA and 6-4-1 overall.
The Broncos will return to action on Sunday when they host San Francisco State at 11:30 a.m. on Kellogg Field.
