CARSON -- Cal State Dominguez Hills placed together a four-run, five-hit fourth inning and went on to defeat the Cal Poly Pomona Broncos 9-5 in their California Collegiate Athletic Association series opener Friday.

Trailing 2-0 after three innings, the Broncos gained the lead with a four-run fourth. Erik Riedel led off with a double, then scored one out later on Jenzen Torres' single through the left side. Richard McDowell scored Torres on a fielder's choice and Stephen Gonzalez and Michael Neff each contributed an RBI.
But the Toros struck back with their four-run fourth. They later added three runs in the seventh for good measure.
McDowell had a solo home run for CPP in the sixth and finished with two RBI.
The Toros improved to 8-4, 4-1, while the Broncos dropped to 9-5, 3-2.
Broncos RHP Kevin Bosson (2-2) threw 3 2/3 innings, allowing six runs (three earned).
