POMONA
– For the first time in eight years the Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball team earned a season sweep over Chico State. And the usual suspects led the way for the Broncos on Friday night.

Junior Reyana Colson scored a game-high 18 points with five rebounds and three assists and sophomore Megan Ford pumped in 11 points with five rebounds as CPP earned a 53-48 victory over the Wildcats before a crowd of 250 at Kellogg Gym.

The victory was CPP's third straight as it improved to 15-4 overall and 12-3 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. The Wildcats dropped to 11-8, 8-6.

The game was tied at halftime at 22-apiece, before the Broncos broke through early. A Ford layup began the second half as CPP outscored Chico State 15-8 in the first eight minutes and never trailed in the final 20 minutes.

After Natasha Smith hit a 3-pointer with 16:03 remaining, CPP led 32-27. A pair of free throws from Colson, a jumper from Ebony White on the deep right corner and a 3-pointer from La'kenya Simon-West pushed CPP out front 39-30 with 11:52 left.

The Broncos led by as many as 11 with 9:10 remaining when Ford hit a jump shot to push CPP ahead, 45-34.

Chico State made a slight run at the end to cut the lead to three twice, but couldn't get any closer.

The Broncos, who were ranked sixth in this week's NCAA West Regional poll, fired 46.8 percent from the floor (22-of-47) and balanced scoring. Walton and Simon-West contributed six points apiece.

Chico State was led by Synchro Bull's 13 points.

The Broncos return to Kellogg Gym on Saturday night when they play host to Cal State Stanislaus. Tipoff is 5:30 p.m.
