Broncos earn series split after 12-8 loss at CSU Dominguez Hills

-- A five-run eighth inning lifted Cal State Dominguez Hills past Cal Poly Pomona 12-8 as both teams combined for 30 hits in the series finale.

The Broncos earned a split against the Toros as they are now 11-6 overall and 5-3 in the CCAA.

Travis Taijeron homered for Cal Poly Pomona, which takes on Chico State this weekend in Chico. The series begins at 6 p.m. Friday.

Erik Riedel and Tyson Edwards each had three hits for CPP, which trailed 7-6 through seven innings.

The Broncos regained the lead in the eighth on Taijeron's two-run home run to to center.

But the Toros struck with five runs and four hits in the eighth -- all on the long ball. Dena Benavidez hit a two-run home off Casey Yokubaitis, and three batters later, Kyle Pond roughed up Broncos reliever John Pollock with a three-run homer.

Edwards, Taijeron and Jenzen Torres each had two RBI for the Broncos.
