POMONA – Senior Marcus Makia's three-run home run keyed Cal Poly Pomona to an 11-2 victory in Game 1 of its doubleheader Saturday and Geoff Broussard and Joshua Krist combined on a three-hitter in the second game as the Broncos swept San Francisco State in California Collegiate Athletic Association play at Scolinos Field.

The Broncos, now 14-10 overall and 8-7 in the CCAA, complete the weekend series with a nine-inning game Sunday with first pitch set for 12 p.m.

Game 1: Broncos 11, SFSU 2

CPP made sure it shook off any ill feelings on Friday's 6-3 loss to SFSU by scoring four runs in both the first and second inning and never looked back.

The Broncos, with two outs, struck quickly with four runs on four hits in the opening inning. Back to back singles by Makia and Richard McDowell resulted in run-scoring plays. After Jordan Alcantar was hit by pitch, Stephen Gonzalez laced a two-run single that scored Makia and McDowell.

CPP sent nine batters to the plate in the inning, then struck with another four-run, four-hit inning in the second.

Striking the big blow was Makia's three run shot to left. Jenzen Torres' RBI-single scored Erik Riedel, who led off with a single. Makia then stepped up with his shot and the Broncos were in command.

Makia was 3-for-5 with five RBI with CPP's only extra-base hit among their 11 for the game.

Senior RHP Travis Kelly allowed four hits in seven innings with two strikeouts and three walks. Relievers Scott Sibley and Michael Parker combined to throw two innings of shut-out relief.

Game 2: Broncos 5, SFSU 2

CPP scored all five of its runs in the third inning and that was enough to support Broussard. The Alta Loma native threw 5 2/3 innings and struck out three, giving up three hits and did not issue a walk. Krist earned the save with one strikeout and faced just four batters.

Michael Neff opened the third with a single and senior Manny Navarro followed with another single. Riedel reached on an RBI-single and junior Tyson Edwards responded with a two-run single and CPP led 3-0.

After Travis Taijeron struck out, Torres doubled to center to score Edwards and Makia followed with another RBI-double to score Torres.
