POMONA -- Trailing 4-0 after one-half inning, Cal Poly Pomona answered with eight unanswered runs and went on to defeat visiting San Francisco State 8-4 in California Collegiate Athletic Association baseball Sunday at Scolinos Field.
The Broncos, now 15-10 overall and 9-7 in the CCAA, faced the four-run deficit after the Gators' Nick Bowerman ripped a grand slam off CPP starter
Erick Ruvalcaba in the opening frame.
CPP answered back with four runs in the third, one in the fourth and put the game out of reach with a three-run eighth inning.
Coach Mike Ashman's crew got going in the third as the Bronco scored their runs with two outs.
Travis Taijeron's RBI-single scored
Tyson Edwards, who reached on a fielder's choice.
Jenzen Torres walked and
Marcus Makia delivered a single that plated Taijeron.
Richard McDowell then singled through the right to score Torres, and Michael Neff responded with an RBI-double that scored Makia to tie the game at 4-4.
CPP grabbed the lead for good in the fourth.
Robert Palmer led off with a triple to left center and scored on Edwards' infield ground out.
Edwards padded the lead with a two-run homer to right that scored
Erik Riedel, who singled. The Broncos added another run on a first-and-third situation that scored Taijeron, who reached when he was hit by a pitch.
Junior RHP
Casey Yokubaitis earned the win with five innings of shut-out relief.
Edwards led the Broncos with three RBI on the day with just the one hit. Makia and Riedel each had two singles.
