POMONA -- Tim Shibuya improved to 7-0 on the season as top-ranked UC San Diego defeated Cal Poly Pomona 7-3 in California Collegiate Athletic Association baseball Thursday at Scolinos Field.
The Broncos are 17-13 overall and 9-8 in the CCAA, while the Tritons are 25-3, 15-2.
Grant Bauer's two-run double put UCSD up 4-1 in the sixth.
UCSD added three insurance runs in the ninth inning.
CPP put runners on second and third with no outs in the ninth, but Tuma finished off the Broncos by surrendering just two RBI groundouts to close out the game.
Shibuya improved to 7-0 with 7.2 innings pitched, giving up seven hits, one run, walking three and striking out three.
