The nation's top-ranked team UC San Diego took the 4-game series over Cal Poly Pomona in weekend play that wrapped up Saturday afternoon in La Jolla.
The Broncos, who have lost five consecutive games, are 17-16 overall and 9-11 in the California Collegiate Athletic Assocation. They take on Cal State Los Angeles in a 4-game series that begins Thursday night in Los Angeles. The Broncos will play a single, 9-inning game on Thursday and Friday night and wrapup the series with a doubleheader at Scolinos Field on Saturday.
First pitch is set for 12:00 p.m.
Friday, UC San Diego 5, Broncos 2
CPP took advantage from the get-go with two runs in the first, but the Tritons answered right back with five in the second and went on to earn the victory.
CPP scored its runs on two hits and an error. Erik Riedel led off on a hit by pitch and Manny Navarro followed with an 0-2 single to center.
An error by the center fielder put Travis Taijeron on first and the bases were loaded with no outs for Jenzen Torres, who lifted a sacrifice fly to center to score Riedel.
After Marcus Makia walked, Stephen Gonzalez responded with the second sac fly of the inning to score Navarro.
But UCSD answered with its five runs on five hits. Delivering the big blow was Saul's two-run double to center that put the Tritons on top 5-0.
Starter Geoff Broussard threw just 1 2/3 innings, but reliever RHP Casey Yokubaitis came up big. The Goleta native threw 6 1/3 innings of shut-out relief wtih three strikeouts and a walk. He scattered five hits.
All five of the Broncos' hits of Matt Rossman were singles.
Saturday, UC San Diego 11, Broncos 0
Kirby St. John limited the Broncos to four hits in seven innings and UCSD jumped out on top with three runs in the first and six in the second to earn the rout.
Taijeron had a pair of hits for CPP and Torres, Tyson Edwards and David Jaques eached singled. No one had an extra-base hit.

For the third straight game the Broncos did not have an extra-base hit as the Tritons took advantage early, leading 5-1 after two innings.
Taijeron lifted a sacrifice fly to center that scored Riedel, who reached on a hit by pitch.
Makia had the other RBI for CPP with his run-scoring single to center that scored Richard McDowell, who reached on a single.
Joshua Krist threw three innings and took the loss. He struck out two and allowed eight hits, five runs -- all earned.
