HAYWARD -- Sophomore
Geoff Broussard improved his record to 6-2 on the season and the Broncos earned their first victory over host Cal State East Bay, taking the nightcap 10-6 in CCAA play Saturday.
The Broncos, now 21-23 overall, look for a series split when the teams conclude the 4-game series Sunday.
Broncos 10, Cal State East Bay 6
Tyson Edwards was the man at the plate in Saturday's second game as the Tracy native accounted for three RBI -- a two-run double and a solo home run -- as the Broncos fought back after trailing 3-0.
The Broncos accounted for 13 hits in the one-sided affair. CPP held a 10-3 lead entering the bottom of the seventh. The Pioneers answered with three runs, but it wasn't enough.
Broussard struck out four and scattered 11 hits and six runs (all earned).
Marcus Makia and
Erik Riedel each had two hits in the win.
Cal State East Bay 4, Broncos 1
CSUEB's starting pitcher Jikens struck out 15 Broncos as he scattered seven hits for his complete-game victory.
Jordan Alcantar gave CPP its only run of the game when he hit a home run in the second inning.
Senior
Manny Navarro hit the Broncos' only other extra-base hit -- a double.
Friday: Cal State East Bay 7, Broncos 6
Leading 7-2 through seven innings, the Pioneers took control with a 7-run eighth inning and went on to earn the victory.
