POMONA -- After losing a tough 7-6 decision in Saturday's opener, the Cal Poly Pomona baseball team answered back with a 10-2 win the second game to earn a split on the doubleheader and series split against Cal State L.A. in California Collegiate Athletic Association play.

The Broncos, now 19-18 overall and 11-13 in the CCAA, play host to Cal State San Bernardino on Thursday and Friday. The Broncos will conclude their series against the Coyotes with doubleheader Saturday at CSUSB's Fiscalini Field.

Game 1: Cal State L.A. 7, Broncos 6

The Broncos faced a 5-0 deficit before they had a chance to bat as the Golden Eagles put up a five-spot on Broncos' starter Casey Yokubaitis in the first inning.

CSULA scored its five runs on seven hits -- all with two outs. Sam Wiley, Matt Miraldi, Jordan Castro, Max Moya, Jesus Campos and Joe Park all had consecutive singles. Chris Matzner had the Golden Eagles' only extra-base hit of the inning with a double.

CPP answered with two runs in the first. Travis Taijeron's triple to right scored Tyson Edwards, who reached on an error. Taijeron later scored on Jenzen Torres' sacrifice fly to right.

CPP then tied the game at 5-5 in the third. Stephen Gonzalez' sacrifice fly scored Edwards, who walked. David Jaques followed with an RBI-single and Manny Navarro had an RBI when he was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

CPP grabbed the lead at 6-5 in the sixth. Erik Riedel delivered a single against CSULA's Matt Clark and scored Robert Palmer, who walked.

But CSULA placed two on the board in the eighth. Matzner drilled a two-run double off Michael Parker, who took the loss.

Yokubaitis settled down after his tough first inning. He gave up five hits in five innings after the tough first inning.

Riedel, Taijeron and Jaques each had two hits for CPP.

Game 2: Broncos 10, Cal  State L.A. 2

The Broncos took advantage of CSULA's wildness in the second inning as the Golden Eagles put seven consecutive Broncos on the bases with a walk, hit by pitch and five consecutive walks.

They would score eight runs on only two hits.

After CSULA grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first, the Broncos got one back in the first on Torres' single to left that scored Edwards.

In the second, the Broncos sent 13 batters to the plate. Torres, Makia, Gonzalez, Jaques and Joe Villa each had RBIs via walks.

That would be enough for Geoff Broussard (4-2), who earned the win in five innings. He gave up five hits, two runs (both earned), walked three and struck out one. Scott Sibley threw two innings of relief and allowed just two hits.

Riedel and Torres each had two RBI. Both Riedel and Edwards doubled for CPP.

Miraldi had two RBI for CSULA.
