Box Score: Sonoma State 13, Broncos 9
ROHNERT PARK -- The Cal Poly Pomona Broncos closed the 2010 season Sunday with a 13-9 loss at Sonoma State in California Collegiate Athletic Association play.
The Broncos completed their season 26-27 overall and 18-22 in the CCAA. SSU finished 24-28, 17-23.
Travis Taijeron led the Broncos with a 3-for-5 effort and had CPP's only extra-base hit -- a double in the fourth inning.
The Broncos stranded 10 runners on base and fell apart in the sixth inning.
Trailing 6-4, Sonoma State scored four runs on just two hits in the fifth. A three-run homer by Stevens put the Seawolves on top for good. They added another run on a failed pick-off play.
The Broncos answered right back on a three-run sixth inning. Consecutive hit by pitches to
Jordan Alcantar and
Manny Navarro and a four-pitch walk to
Robert Palmerloaded the bases for CPP.
Marcus Makia popped up to third, but
Jenzen Torres ripped a two-run single to right tied the game at 8-8.
Erik Riedel later earned a two-out, bases-loaded walk and CPP had a one-run cushion, 9-8.
But the Seawolves scored three runs in the sixth -- all on a Parigi homer -- and added two in the eighth for the win.
John Pollock (1-1) took the loss in just one-third of an inning.
