POMONA
-- Only 12 seconds showed on the clock Thursday afternoon and opportunity was on the line.

A cross from sophomore Tiffany Rogers found junior Brittney Marteney in front of the net. The West Covina fired off a header that bounced off the post and dropped right in front of junior Jennifer Rivera.

The Hacienda Heights native picked up the ball and hammered a shot past Notre Dame de Namur goalkeeper Kelsey Baxter and the Broncos celebrated with a 1-0 win in the season opener for both teams in nonconference women's soccer.

"I thought we played very well together,'' Broncos coach Isabelle Harvey said. "We had an all-out effort from everyone and I felt like we kept it going and kept pushing. We got it going in waves.

"The goal paid off because it was an effort from everyone today.''

The Broncos out-shot the Argos 12-7 and fired seven SOG to NDNU's 2.

But the game was scoreless until the final minute of play.

Rivera had two shots -- both on goal -- until her opportunity came up. The Mt. SAC transfer had enjoyed a productive preseason and it paid off with the game-winner.

The Broncos' Sarah Rohman earned the start at goalkeeper and the Santee native had two saves. Juniro Nataila Guevara earned the win as she played the entire second half. She did not face a shot in her time.

Junior Justine Barclay, senior Britany Garrett and freshman Nushin Tasbihchi each had one shot on goal.

The Broncos play to nonconference foe Dominican at 2 p.m. Saturday.
