POMONA – Under clear skies and a full moon seemingly hanging above Kellogg Stadium, a crowd of 801 saw Cal Poly Pomona defeat #1 ranked and previously unbeaten Cal State L.A. 2-0.
Anthony Salcedo scored the Broncos first goal at 36:33 with an assist from Luis Gonzalez. The Broncos scored again early in the second period on Luis Gonzalez's sixth goal of the season assisted by Tyler Reinhart.
“Tonight was a total team effort and I was especially proud of our defense,” commented Lance Thompson, Broncos head coach. “Both teams came to play tonight and we were fortunate a few opportunities went our way.”
With the win, Cal Poly Pomona moves to 5-2 overall and 3-2 in the CCAA. Cal State L.A. is now 5-1 overall and 4-1 in the CCAA. Cal Poly Pomona hosts CSU Dominguez Hills on Sunday at 2 p.m., while Cal State L.A. is at CSU San Bernardino.
