POMONA --
On a day where temperatures exceeded 100 degrees, the Cal Poly Pomona women's team took advantage early and outlasted visiting Dominican 3-0 in nonconference play Saturday.

The Broncos, now 2-0 overall, begin California Collegiate Athletic Association play this coming week when they play at Sonoma State on Sept. 10.

Junior Jennifer Rivera put CPP on the board when she received a feed from freshman Nushin Tasbihchi. Rivera took control of the ball out front of the net and fired a shot past Penguins GK Megan Herring in the game's 8th minute.

Seven minutes later, junior Gloria Gonzalez put a nifty move, spinning her body and placing a shot from the right of the net on an unassisted play.

Melissa Garcia added the day's final tally in the 84th minute. She scored on a pretty shot that seemed as if it was parallel to the net that got by. Sophomore Rachel Ulanch earned the assist.

CPP received a superb defensive effort from its defenders. Seniors Britany Garrett and Stephanie Sandino each played the entire 90-minute game through torrid heat. Their play, along with teammate Miya Quinn, was critical as Dominican didn't fire a shot at goal all game.

Sarah Rohman earned the start at GK and earned the win.
