SAN BERNARDINO, Calif.
- With late dramatics from freshman Aneska Alino, the Cal Poly Pomona women's soccer team defeated Cal State San Bernardino, 1-0, in a long double-overtime Friday contest under a burning sun.

The Broncos improve to 8-5-4 overall and 6-5-4 in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play. They will finish the regular season on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. with a contest at No. 7 UC San Diego.

Each team endured the adverse weather conditions and did whatever it took to prevent the ball from going inside their own goals.

In the 118th minute of the match, Alino received a cross from senior forward Justine Barclay. With a wide-open look, Alino put the ball into the upper-right corner of the net to seal the victory in sudden-death double overtime. It was Alino's third goal and Barclay's fifth assist on the year.

Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Emily Miller had seven saves and earned the win for the Broncos to improve her record on the year to 3-2-2. The victory also marks her second shutout of the season.

Perhaps the best scoring opportunity for the Broncos in regulation occurred when junior midfielder Cindy Paez took a penalty kick for the Broncos after senior forward Valerie Strawn was taken down by a Coyote near the goal box in the 73rd minute. However, sophomore goalkeeper Chelsey Jones' dive to the left deflected the ball away from the Coyotes' goal.

For the game, the Coyotes outshot the Broncos, 21-12, and for regulation, the Coyotes outshot the Broncos, 20-10. Each team had seven shots-on-goal.

The opening half featured several close calls for both teams.

For the Broncos, Paez had three shots within the opening 12 minutes while Miller had two diving deflections within seconds during the 34th minute. Miller finished the first half with five saves.

CSUSB had 10 shots to CPP's four. For both teams, half of their shots were on goal in the first half.

The Coyotes (9-6-2, 7-6-2 CCAA) take on the Gators of San Francisco State at home on Sunday at 2 p.m.
