POMONA, Calif. - With Megan Ford leading the way, the 12th-ranked Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball team put together a dominating second half to defeat Chico State, 70-55, on Saturday at Kellogg Gym.

Ford barely missed another double double, collecting 19 points and nine rebounds against the Wildcats. Three other Broncos joined her in double figures, with Sarah Semenero notching 15, Rosslyn Beard contributing 12 and Charlene Popoff adding 11.

CPP improves to 5-0 overall and 3-0 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA), while CSUC falls to 3-2 overall and 2-1 through conference play.

The two squads played even through the first half, trading leads for much of the period. A jumper from Ford tied the score at 24-24 going into intermission. Popoff starred in the opening half, recording seven points and six rebounds.

Although CPP shot just 36 percent through the first 20 minutes, the Broncos' offense got going in the second period and put together a 57.7-percent showing.

CSUC stayed close, trailing 39-34 with about eight minutes passed in the closing half. CPP broke through for a rally though, registering a 10-0 run while holding the Wildcats scoreless from the 13:02 to the 9:06 marks. Ariel Marsh's shooting fueled that spurt, as she knocked down three jumpers in less than three minutes.

The Broncos' advantage didn't fall below double digits the rest of the way, with Ford notching 13 of her game-high 19 points in the second half. CPP overcame its struggles at the free throw line with stellar shooting from the floor, going 24-for-51 (47.1 percent) on the evening.

Overall, the Broncos collected 11 steals with Semenero leading with four and Beard contributing three of her own. Beard finished with a perfect shooting night, going 4-for-4 from the field and 2-for-2 from the line.

Up next for CPP will be a 1 p.m. game next Saturday against Dixie State. The Red Storm, 4-2 overall, play out of the Pacific West Conference.
