SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - The Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball team suffered a tough 83-70 road loss at Cal State San Bernardino Tuesday, as the Coyotes used strong three-point shooting to propel themselves to victory.

The Broncos fall to 20-4 overall and 17-3 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association, while CSUSB improves to 19-5 overall and 15-5 through league action. Like the rest of the squads in the conference, the Broncos and Coyotes have two regular season games remaining. Second-place CPP hosts third-place UC San Diego on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.

Reyana Colson, despite going 2-for-10 from the field en route to six points in the first half, picked it up in the second half with 23 points in that span for a game total of 29. Megan Ford contributed a strong game for the Broncos as well, totaling 17 points and nine rebounds for a near double-double.

Although CPP faced a 35-32 deficit at halftime, the Broncos managed to take a four-point lead on multiple occasions in the second half, including as late as the 12:32 mark after a Kaitlin Derby layup. A three-pointer from CSUSB's Sabrina Gonzalez roughly four minutes later put the Coyotes ahead for good and the hosts stretched their advantage to double digits in the final minute.

Leading the CSUSB attack were Amber Glasser and Gonzalez, who recorded point totals of 21 and 20 respectively. Coming close to double figures for CPP was La'kenya Simon West, who netted nine points and five rebounds on the night.

Despite the Broncos outrebounding their foes for much of the contest, it was the Coyotes' three-point shooting that put them over the top. CSUSB went 8-for-19 from beyond the arc (42.1 percent).

The Coyotes maintained a single-digit lead for much of the opening period and extended it to double-digits with a Jessica de la Cruz hit a trey at the 5:06 mark. Strong play by the Broncos toward the end of the half brought the margin closer though. With the clock moving under two minutes, Ford knocked down back-to-back buckets.

Down 35-29 heading into the final minute of the half, Colson sunk a three-pointer to cut the lead to 35-32 in favor of CSUSB.

CPP continued to chip away at the advantage at the start of the second period and after going ahead at 16:58 after a Colson layup, the Broncos didn't let the Coyotes lead across the next nine minutes. After Gonzalez's three-pointer at the 8:06 mark though, CSUSB turned it on and outscored the visitors 22-10 the rest of the way.

Up next for CPP will be the 5:30 p.m. matchup Thursday against UCSD as part of Faculty and Staff Appreciation Night at Kellogg Gym. The following night, the Broncos take on Cal State East Bay on Senior Night in Pomona.
