TURLOCK, Calif. - The Cal Poly Pomona baseball team captured another 4-3 victory in the first half of Saturday's doubleheader and then carried that momentum into the second contest for a 13-1 rout of Cal State Stanislaus.

The Broncos, increasing their win streak to five games, now stand at 15-6 overall and 9-6 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. With Saturday's results, CPP rises into a tie for fourth place in the conference standings with UC San Diego after defeating and passing the Warriors (13-6, 7-6 CCAA).

"At the plate, our guys were working hard to get the counts they needed," Broncos' head coach Randy Betten said. "They got their pitches and took advantage."

Jenzen Torres and Tyson Edwards collected four hits each between the two games, while Travis Taijeron connected on his sixth homerun of the season during the first contest.

Game One: CPP 4, CSUS 3

Although the Warriors managed to take a lead with one run in the second inning, the Broncos rallied to seize the advantage with scores during the middle frames. Taijeron knotted the score at 1-1 with a leadoff solo shot over the centerfield fence to open the fourth. CPP then collected a pair of runs off of a two-run single by Torres in the top of the sixth. A sacrifice fly from Ryan Goodman brought in Edwards during the seventh, lifting the Broncos' edge to 4-1.

CSUS managed to bounce back with a score in the bottom of the seventh inning and that result ended the day for CPP starter Erick Ruvalcaba, who finished with a strong 6.2 innings and seven strikeouts, while allowing just one earned run.

Michael Parker worked the Broncos out of the seventh-inning jam and went 1.1 innings of scoreless ball. The Warriors scored a run in the ninth against CPP reliever Jake Reed and the hosts even put runners on second and third. Geoff Broussard came on for the Broncos and got CSUS outfielder Fred Atkins swinging to end the game.

Game Two: CPP 13, CSUS 1

Both offenses started a little slow in the second game but the Broncos managed to tack on a run in the top of the second when a groundout by Jordan Whitman brought in Torres. The score remained 1-0 in favor of CPP until the fourth, when the Broncos exploded for 12 runs across the next three frames.

The big knock in the fourth came from Edwards, who doubled to right field to bring home Whitman and Chris Miller. The Warriors' defense fell apart in the fifth, committing three errors to help CPP register five scores at that juncture. In the four-run sixth inning, the Broncos led off with three-straight hits. In fact, all six of CPP's hitters that inning technically reached base but two fielder's choice plays and a pickoff helped CSUS finally get out of the inning.

Kevin Bosson threw a gem on the mound for the Broncos, throwing seven innings of one-run ball while striking out seven Warrior hitters. The CPP lineup tallied 14 hits, with Torres and Edwards tallying three each. Four Bronco players - Torres, Edwards, Whitman and Allen Rodarte - recorded multi-RBI games.
