NORTHRIDGE, Calif. – Neil Macrorie and Jacob Cummings of the Cal Poly Pomona men's track and field team completed their solid performances Friday at the Northridge Invitational.
“We got a couple of personal bests and you can't ask for more than that,” Broncos' assistant coach Lauren Reimer said. “If you improve on your events, you have to be pleased. There are still things to improve on and for Neil and Jacob, I know there's a lot more to come as the season progresses.”
During Friday's competition, Macrorie finished in fifth place with 6,216 points, while Cummings posted 4,881 points. Despite not being able to record a height in the pole vault, Cummings still scored higher at Northridge with all 10 events than he recorded at the 2010 California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) championships.
The highlight of Friday's action for Macrorie was the 1,500-meter race, where he ran a time of 4:50. That marked the first time that he had posted a 1,500-meter mark under five minutes.
Macrorie, a senior out of Moreno Valley, Calif., totaled 3,036 points after the first day of the decathlon. He set personal records in the shotput (34-5.50) and the high jump (5-10.75).
A sophomore from Corona, Calif., Cummings recorded 2,907 points through the opening day at Northridge. He also posted new career bests in the shotput (30-6.50) and the high jump (5-7.25)
The rest of the Bronco track and field squad will be competing at the Trojan Invitational, which will be held Saturday at USC's Loker Stadium.
