LOS ANGELES – The 4x400 relay performance highlighted an impressive day for the Cal Poly Pomona men's track and field team Saturday at the Trojan Invitational.

Jacob Deavers, Matt Boudreau, Carter Griffin and Corey Arnold combined to post a 3:13.63 mark in that event, placing third while hitting a provisional national qualifying (PNQ) mark.

Arnold also starred in the 400-meter dash, taking sixth place with a 48.53 mark that fell just shy of the 48.00 provisional time.

In his first appearance of the 2011 season, Jersain Torres put together a stellar performance in the 3,000-meter race, crossing the line at 8:43.94 to take third. Teammate Gustavo Cruz wasn't far behind in that event, placing fifth at 8:49.49.

Deavers turned in the Broncos' top 110-meter hurdles time so far this season, posting a 15.06 mark for seventh place. Also taking seventh were Derek Wong in the pole vault, registering a 14-7.25 distance, and Shane Cioni, tallying a 45-4.5 mark in the shot put.

Lance Walkington, who has already earned a California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Athlete of the Week honor this season, continued his strong start to the 2011 season with a fourth-place 206-0 performance in the javelin.

The Broncos return to action next week with the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto, the San Francisco State Distance Carnival and the Cal-Nevada Invitational in Claremont.
