SEASIDE, Calif.  -
All nine of the starters in the Cal Poly Pomona baseball team's lineup registered at least one hit Thursday, as the Broncos cruised to a 17-3 road rout of Cal State Monterey Bay.

Among the top performances were Jenzen Torres' 4-for-5 effort and Travis Taijeron scoring a career-high five runs while also knocking his 12th homerun of the 2011 campaign. Erick Ruvalcaba starred on the mound for CPP, totaling eight innings and racking up six strikeouts. The sophomore right-hander induced 14 groundouts and one fly out.

"This was the best approach at the plate I've seen from our team this year," Broncos' head coach Randy Betten said. "We were being patient, seeing our pitches and taking advantage."

The result raises the Broncos into fourth place in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) standings at 19-14 in conference play. CPP stands .009 percentage points ahead of fifth-place Cal State San Bernardino.

On Thursday, the Broncos' first five hitters reached base, including a leadoff single from Mike Santora to extend his hitting streak to 21 games. CPP ended up with five runs in the frame while batting around and the rally was capped off by an RBI double from Stephen Gonzalez.

The Broncos' offense threatened again to start the second, getting the first two hitters on base in Ryan Goodman and Taijeron, forcing the Otters to replace right-handed starter Scott Tully after just one inning of work.

CPP stretched its advantage to 9-0 in the fourth with key hits coming from Torres and Chris Miller doubles. Ruvalcaba continued to roll, holding CSUMB scoreless through the first five innings. The biggest offensive outburst for the Broncos came in the top of the sixth, with the visitors plating seven scores. Goodman tallied his second triple of the season, bringing in Santora and Humberto Tovalin.

The Otters managed to get on the board in the bottom of the sixth, scoring three, but it proved to be much too little and too late. CPP reliever Shane Philipps threw a scoreless ninth to conclude the lopsided contest.

Six Broncos ended the afternoon with multi-hit games - Torres (4-for-5), Goodman (3-for-5), Taijeron (3-for-4), Santora (2-for-6), Miller (2-for-4) and Tyson Edwards (2-for-4).

Ruvalcaba earned the victory to improve to 3-2 on the season. Sophomore right-hander Kevin Bosson will start the first half of Friday's doubleheader, which will begin at 11 a.m. in Seaside.
