CLAREMONT, Calif. -
The Cal Poly Pomona men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Pomona Pitzer Invitational Saturday.

It marked the 25th annual running of the event, held at Pomona College's Strehle Track in Claremont.

The Broncos posted several impressive marks, including Corey Arnold winning his heat in the 200 and finishing fourth overall with a time of 21.77. He also placed fourth in the 400-meter race, crossing the line in 48.91 while battling a tough wind.

"We have to work on our mental confidence going into the busy week at Mt. Sac," CPP head coach Troy Johnson said. "You can tell the team had a week away from competition but we'll keep working hard at it."

Ryan Carrell significantly improved CPP's top 1,500-meter mark on the season, as he turned in a time of 3:59.22 to finish 15th overall in that event. Also in the distance events, Jersain Torres raced well in the 5,000-meter race as he came away with a 15:02.64 mark.

Jacob Deavers narrowly crossed into a provisional national qualifer (PNQ) in the 400-meter hurdles, as he finished with a time of 53.86 that was just inside the benchmark of 53.90.

In the discus throw, Vincent Huitt posted the Broncos' top mark of the season so far at 150-5. In the hammer throw, Huitt went 160-7.

CPP returns to action with the Mt. SAC Relays starting on Wednesday.
