CLAREMONT, Calif. -
Neil Macrorie of the Cal Poly Pomona men's track and field team completed a remarkable comeback this week, racking up 5,797 points in the decathlon at the Claremont Classic.

The senior from Moreno Valley, Calif., nearly matched his season best with that total and the most amazing part of it all was that Macrorie's performance in Claremont comes just three weeks after he underwent hernia surgery.

His top finish among the decathlon events came in the 110-meter hurdles, when he placed fourth with a time of 15.47. Macrorie also stood out in the pole vault, recording a sixth-place mark of 13-6.5.

"Running and competing with the Broncos has been the best experience of my life," Macrorie said. "I'm thankful that I was able to get this opportunity at Cal Poly Pomona."

Macrorie has been a consistent contributor on the Broncos' squad through the last four seasons and he posted fourth-place finishes in the decathlon at the conference championships in 2009 and 2010.
