TURLOCK, Calif. -
After several stellar prelim performances Friday, the hurdle and sprint finals Saturday at the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Championships will feature plenty of members of the Cal Poly Pomona men's track and field team.

After day two, the Broncos rank fifth with 11 points. Chico State leads the pack at 76 points.

Jacob Deavers continued his excellent spring in the hurdle events Friday, posting the top prelim mark in the 110-meter hurdles at 14.65. That shaved off 0.28 off his earlier provisional mark. Along with Deavers, Matt Boudreau (15.22) and Neil Macrorie (15.41) will also participate in Saturday's final of that event.

In the 400-meter hurdles, Deavers and Boudreau performed well enough Friday to earn a spot in Saturday's final race.

Carter Griffin easily advanced into Saturday's 200-meter final after registering the top prelim time at 21.56. Brian Crane will join him in that event's final with his 22.30 prelim mark making the cut.

Griffin's dominance continued into the 400-meter dash, as he crossed the line in the prelims' top time of 48.50. Four of the eight runners in the 400-meter final will be Broncos, with Corey Arnold (49.13), Crane (50.08) and Greg Starkey (50.55) joining Griffin.

Recording points for CPP on Friday was Gustavo Cruz, who raced the 10,000-meter event in 32:01.89 to take fifth overall.

Vincent Huitt placed fifth in the discus throw, notching a distance of 154-6 that passed his previous best of 150-5. Shane Cioni joined his CPP teammate among the point-getters, finishing eighth at 146-3.
