POMONA, Calif. - Goalkeeper Andrew Todd and the Broncos' defense posted a shutout Sunday against UC San Diego, as the Cal Poly Pomona men's soccer team cruised to a 3-0 victory at Kellogg Field. The win puts the Broncos in first place atop the conference's South Division.

Making his first appearance of the season, Todd collected four saves en route to picking up his second career scoreless outing. In front of him, the back line of Liam Hall, Victor Gutierrez and Daniel Gomez turned in another solid outing.

After dropping a tough 2-0 decision to Cal State San Bernardino Friday, the Broncos searched for and secured three points Sunday. CPP stands at 4-2-0 overall and 3-1-0 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). UCSD falls to 3-3-0 overall and 2-2-0 through league action.

The Broncos broke through for the first score in the 16th minute, with Luis Gonzalez initiating the chance by sending a pass from the midline to the right side for Hall. Charging up toward the corner, Hall lined a cross to the right side of the box where senior Boris Beta met the ball and placed a shot to the right of diving UCSD netminder Josh Cohen.

The Tritons also put together some decent chances deep in the offensive zone but Todd came up with one stop after another. With about nine minutes to go before intermission, UCSD's Andisheh Bagheri flicked a little pass into the box for Franco Cruz, who lined a hard shot from only eight yards out. Todd made a tremendous save with his foot, keeping the score at 1-0.

CPP managed to get another goal before the end of the half as Ian Trantow struck for his first career score at 39:30. A through ball by Juan Mejia set Trantow up with a one-on-one opportunity against Cohen and Trantow capitalized, blasting a shot to the upper right side of the net.

The final goal of the day came in the 65th minute, after a series of slick passes by the Broncos. Patiently passing around the top of box were Russell Vernon and Sam Morales, before Jonathan Enns was found in space. He lined a shot past Cohen, giving the Broncos a 3-0 advantage.

In the end, CPP outshot the visitors, 20-10. Enns finished with five attempts and Gonzalez added three.

Up next for the Broncos will be a 7 p.m. matchup against Sonoma State at Kellogg Field. The contest, pitting the North Division and South Division leaders against each other, will be part of "Pack the Stands" festivities with a 3:30 p.m. tailgate scheduled before the women's game.
