POMONA, Calif. - For the second-straight game, the Cal Poly Pomona baseball team faced a one-run deficit heading into the ninth inning. And once again, the Broncos pulled out a comeback win.

It came in extra-inning fashion Friday, with CPP topping Concordia 7-6 in the 11th at Scolinos Field. Not only did the Broncos overcome the one-run gap in the ninth but also trailed by three runs in the 11th and final frame.

Friday's result keeps the Broncos' record at 5-0 while the Eagles drop to 3-2. The two teams will conclude their three-game series with a Saturday doubleheader starting at 10 a.m.

With CPP trailing 3-2, Broncos' senior shortstop Mike Santora delivered a two-out hit in the bottom of the ninth inning to score Charles Ball for the game-tying run. CUI's bullpen escaped the jam eventually and the contest moved into extras.

In the top of the 11th inning, Eagles' junior infielder Matt Palmer came through with a key single of his own. His clutch hit scored two runners and CUI added a third before leaving the Broncos to their turn at the plate.

CPP staged its winning rally in the bottom of the 11th, jumpstarted when junior outfielder Jordan Whitman lined a bases loaded one-out double into the outfield to pull the Broncos within one run at 6-5.

Donald Walter stepped up to the plate with the bases loaded and still one out. He then knocked the game-winning hit, a double down the leftfield line to plate Whitman and Jordan McCraney.

Broncos' right-handed reliever Kyle McNutt ended up getting the win after logging one inning and giving up three runs. CUI's Josh White, who allowed four walks Friday, suffered the loss to fall to 0-1 on the season.

Playing a key role in keeping the Eagles' bats silent in the late innings was senior right-hander Jake Reed, who threw 3.1 scoreless innings and only allowed one hit. He also struck out three CUI hitters.

Early on the contest featured a pitching duel between starters Erick Ruvalcaba of CPP and Brent Clapper of CUI. Ruvalcaba went 6.1 innings and allowed just three earned runs while scattering seven hits. Clapper also threw well, totaling 7.2 innings and giving up two runs.

Santora ended the day with a 3-for-5 showing at the plate and senior designated hitter Jenzen Torres joined his teammate with a multi-hit performance, going 2-for-4 with a run batted in.
