Broncos Showcase Speed, Strength at Pasadena Games

PASADENA, Calif. Exhibiting terrific speed across hurdles, sprints and relays, the Cal Poly Pomona men's track and field team made first-place finishes a regular occurence Saturday at the Pasadena Games.

In the early afternoon, the Broncos' 4x100 relay team of Sam Morales, James Weiner, Tanner Terry and Jacob Deavers placed first with a time of 41.76. It represented the top 2012 mark for CPP in that event and fell just 0.56 short of a provisional.

Deavers, a 2011 NCAA All-American, also shined in the 400-meter hurdles race Saturday. He crossed the line in 53.20 to take first in the heat and improve the "B" provisional he set earlier this month at Cerritos College.

Later in the day at Pasadena City College, Terry showcased his sprinting abilities with a first-place finish of 21.55 in the 200-meter dash. That result topped his prevous best of 21.77, which was recorded March 10 at Cal State Fullerton.

Sophomore Brian Crane also excelled Saturday for the Broncos as the Chino Hills, Calif., native placed second in his 400-meter heat with a 49.18 mark that easily tops his previous season best by 0.41. Another top finish for CPP came in the pole vault, where sophomore Travis Voorhees took second with a height of 15 feet even.

On Friday during day one of the Pasadena Games, junior Andrew Durham put together stellar performances in both the shot put and discus. A transfer from Moorpark Junior College, Durham placed fourth in the shot put with a distance of 46-7 and third in the discus after posting a 130-5.3 mark. The shot put result stands as an improvement of more than two feet.

The Broncos will return to action at the prestigious Cal/Nevada Invitational, which will be held on Saturday and Sunday in Claremont.
