POMONA, Calif. - Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball head coach Danelle Bishop announced Thursday that Rian Mew has signed a national letter of intent to attend the university and join the Broncos' squad for the 2012-13 academic year.

"Rian is a true point guard, which is something every team needs," Bishop said. "She's lightning quick and she'll definitely add athleticism and speed at the guard position for us. Rian comes from a great family and she excels academically, so she'll fit right in with our current group of student-athletes."

A quick guard who carries a versatile skill set rich in passing and defense, Mew competed in her first collegiate season at Ventura College in 2011-12. She guided the Pirates to marks of 32-2 overall and 12-0 in the Western State Conference (WSC).

A 5-foot-4 guard from Quartz Hill, Mew averaged 8.9 points and 3.0 rebounds per game last year. She also added a team-best 1.2 steals per contest.

Before joining her sister Regan on the Ventura squad, Rian was a four-year letterwinner at Quartz Hill High School. While helping the Lady Rebels' girls' basketball team to continued success as her father Robert served as the squad's coach, Rian collected AV Press All-Valley and All-Golden League honors.

Rian also proved to be a standout for the Rebels' track and field team. She captured a Golden League individual championship in the long jump with a 17-1.75 mark and qualified for the CIF meet in the long jump and 4x100 relay events through each of her four years.

The Broncos went 19-9 through the 2011-12 season en route to the program's third-straight appearance in the NCAA postseason. Late in 2011, Bishop announced the signing of Riverside native Cydnie Jones.
