PUEBLO, Colo. - Competing in his final collegiate race Saturday, Cal Poly Pomona's Jacob Deavers placed sixth in the 400-meter hurdles event of the NCAA Division II Track & Field National Championships with a career-best time of 51.75.

Deavers' finish landed him All-American recognition for the second-straight season. Saturday's stellar performance capped off a tremendous career for the senior from Lake Elsinore. His many achievements include 2011 California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Athlete of the Meet for the conference championships and 2012 Male Co-Athlete of the Year for Cal Poly Pomona.

Saturday's mark of 51.75 also ranks third in the CPP record books, only trailing Adam Moore's 51.40 and Demetrius Cook's 51.74. Through the Broncos' track and field history, Deavers is the 13th male student-athlete to collect the All-American accolade in back-to-back campaigns. The last Bronco to accomplish the feat was Ian Enriquez, who earned All-American selection in 1999 and 2000 while starring in the 3,000-meter steeplechase event.

Lincoln's Sabiel Anderson captured the 2012 400-meter hurdles national title with a time of 50.60, narrowly defeating teammate Romel Lewis' 50.63.

On Thursday in day one of the NCAA Division II Track & Field National Championships, Deavers raced to a 52.35 time in the prelims to place fourth in his heat and eighth overall to earn a spot in Saturday's final. Prior to the national meet, Deavers ranked as the No. 15 seed out of 16 competitors entering Thursday's prelim action.

Earlier this month, Deavers collected All-Region honors in four events through an announcement by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). Deavers totaled 22 individual points on the final day of the 2012 CCAA Championships. The performances signified the versatility of Deavers, who earned All-Region distinction for the 400-meter dash, 110-meter hurdles, 400-meter hurdles and the 4x400 relay.

Saturday's All-American achievement marks the 185th time that a Bronco track and field student-athlete - male or female - has attained the recognition. Through the history of CPP intercollegiate athletic teams, 396 Broncos have achieved that elite status.
