Cal Poly Pomona Fans Select Winners for 2012 Billys

Billy Bronco trailed Ruem Malasarn and Tiffany Dinh in the "Quickest Feet on Campus" voting.

POMONA, Calif. – On Monday, May 7, in a "Night of Excellence" held at Kellogg West, the Cal Poly Pomona intercollegiate athletics department reflected on the 2011-12 school year and celebrated the success of the Broncos' student-athletes.

The evening featured announcements of many special awards but there were still a few honors to be decided. After two weeks of voting, the winners have been announced.

In the "Best Celebration by a Coach" category, men's basketball associate head coach Bill Bannon cruised to a victory with 78.9 percent of the votes, topping Greg Kamansky (15.8 percent) and Rosie Wegrich (5.3 percent).

The voting proved to be a bit closer for the "Best Acting Performance" honor. Geoff Broussard of the baseball team took first with 60.5 percent of the vote while Trevor Persson (31.6 percent) and Taylr Kreutziger (7.9 percent) followed in second and third.

The closest race came in the "Best Pregame Huddle" as less than six percentage points separated the first- and second-place teams. Men's soccer captured the win with 44.7 percent of the votes, just ahead of baseball (39.5 percent). Women's basketball took third with 15.8 percent.

Although many experts expected the "Quickest Feet on Campus" category to be a narrow split, head athletic trainer Ruem Malasarn picked up a convincing win. He totaled 65.8 percent of the votes, topping All-American Tiffany Dinh (18.4) and horse extraordinaire Billy Bronco (15.8 percent).
