ARCATA, Calif. –
The Cal Poly Pomona volleyball team started off its three-match road trip with a win against Humboldt State on Wednesday night.  CPP defeated HSU 3-0 to improve its overall record to 5-3.

Both teams started off slowly in the first set; the lead went back and forth between the Broncos and the Lumberjacks until two service aces from senior outside hitter, Diana Lake, and a strong showing from the Bronco offense gave CPP a five-point lead.

The Lumberjacks were unable to catch up, and remained at least two points behind for the rest of the set.  The final score was 25-21.

The Broncos took a three point lead in the second set, but after a series of offensive and defensive errors they found themselves with a three-point deficit. CPP rallied to get back in the game but did not regain the lead until the score was 23-22.

A service error from the Lumberjacks and a double block by senior middle blocker Taylr Kreutziger and sophomore outside hitter Lauren Jones gave the second set to the Broncos 25-23.

The final set started similar to the first two; the Broncos and Lumberjacks trading possession almost every point.  But when the game was tied at 7-7 the Broncos kicked it into overdrive, posting 16 kills in the remaining 18 points of the set.

Freshman middle blocker Alexa Hasen finished the match with an impressive .600 personal hitting percentage while Diana Lake put away 16 kills for a personal hitting percentage of .310.  The Broncos easily finished off the set 25-14.

Up next, CPP will continue their road trip to challenge Chico State on Friday at 7 p.m.
