POMONA, Calif. –  The Cal Poly Pomona men's soccer team battled tough Friday but the visiting UC San Diego squad recorded a goal in the final minute of regulation to spoil the first half of "Pack the Stands Night" at Kellogg Field.

A miscue by the Broncos' defense set up the Tritons' Scott MacBride with a one-on-one opportunity against CPP goalkeeper Kris Minton. MacBride lifted a shot over Minton to tally his first score of 2012 and deliver the win to UCSD.

The Broncos' offense had its chances earlier in the match, including a shot attempt from Ian Trantow that caromed off the crossbar in the 56th minute. Minton contributed quite a few key stops in the final 15 minutes and finished the night with six saves.

In the end, CPP falls to 2-3-1 overall and 0-3-1 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) while UCSD improves to 4-2-1 overall and 3-1-1 in conference play.

The best scoring chance of the first half for the Broncos came in the 23rd minute when David Carrillo sent a pass upfield to Jesus Mitre. A shot attempt from Mitre was stopped though by Tritons' goalkeeper Josh Cohen. UCSD took a 5-2 shot advantage into halftime but once the second period started, CPP stepped up the pressure.

In the 56th minute, Mitre sent a slick pass to the right side for Trantow. After settling the ball, Trantow bent a shot that curled over the head of Cohen. The ball caromed off the crossbar and a rebound chance for Liam Hall sailed over the frame.

With 13:25 remaining in regulation, UCSD's Evan Walker got a breakaway chance in a two-on-one opportunity. He tapped a shot toward the left side of the net but Minton made a diving stop to keep the score at 0-0. Just three minutes later, Minton made another save on a Walker shot and a rebound attempt was cleared away by a CPP defender just in front of the goalline.

As the clock ticked into the final minute and the game seemed destined for overtime, MacBride stole the ball away from the Broncos' defense at the top of the 18-yard box. Minton tried to cut down the angle but MacBride quickly lifted a shot over the keeper and across the line for the game-winning score.

The Broncos will return to action on Sunday with an 11:30 a.m. home match against Cal State San Bernardino.
