CPP vs CSUSB
Box Score | POMONA, Calif. - With tenacious and relentless rebounding, the Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball team secured a 69-62 win over Cal State San Bernardino Saturday at Kellogg Gym.

Although the Broncos might not be the tallest team in the conference, CPP made plenty of hustle plays Saturday night and ended up outrebounding the Coyotes 46-32.

The Broncos have won the rebounding battle in each of the last two games after being outdueled in that category through seven of the first eight games this year.

With the win, CPP improves to 5-5 overall and 3-3 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) to match San Bernardino's record at the No. 5 spot in the conference standings.

Junior guard J.J. Judge played a key role in the Broncos' success Saturday as she netted her first career double-double performance, scoring 23 points and grabbing 12 rebounds.

Ashley Boggs also contributed clutch baskets down the stretch and finished with 16 points to go along with seven rebounds. In the Broncos' two wins this week, Boggs averaged 4.5 assists.

The two squads proved to be evenly matched through most of the contest as the game featured 11 lead changes and nine occasions of a tie score.

Coyotes' senior guard Eliza Dy scored a game-high 30 points and two of her free throws at the 4:44 mark in the second half gave the visitors a 58-57 lead.

The Broncos bounced back to finish the game on a 12-4 run with Boggs leading the charge. The senior forward from Petaluma registered seven of those final 12 points while the CPP defense held the Coyotes scoreless in the final minute of play.

The host Broncos' squad won two key statistical categories Saturday, gaining 17 points on turnovers to CSUSB's eight. CPP also edged the Coyotes in second-chance points, 18-10.

Freshman Cydnie Jones proved to be a difference maker in both aspects as she recorded seven points and seven rebounds in 20 minutes, with all three totals representing season bests. Five of Jones' seven rebounds came on the offensive end.

CPP went 20-for-27 at the line, with that 74.1-percent effort helped by Judge's 10-for-12 showing. The Roseville native is shooting 87.7 percent from the charity stripe this season as that mark ranks third among CCAA players.

The Broncos will return to action next weekend with road games at Cal State Monterey Bay (3-2 CCAA) and Cal State East Bay (1-4).
