The Broncos jumped out to a 7-2 lead in the opening set with service aces from
Nicoletta Stork and Hasen in that stretch. Humboldt called a pair of timeouts early in the frame but the break didn't slow down the CPP attack as the host squad outhit the Jacks .333-.094 in the set. The Broncos took advantage of some HSU errors late in the frame to wrap up the 25-15 result.
The second set start a bit more even with CPP taking a modest 16-12 lead. The Broncos put together a 3-0 run though to widen the margin with kills from
Lauren Jones and Doerner. That momentum carried through the rest of the set, which ended at 25-16 in favor of CPP after a Noriega ace on the final point.
The Jacks took an early lead in the third set but the Broncos slowly chipped away at the advantage. Trailing 10-8, CPP put together a 6-0 run to take over the lead as Jones, Hasen and Stork contributed kills in that stretch. The two teams traded points but after a 21-21 tie, Humboldt closed out with a 4-1 run to take the 25-22 result and extend the match.
The visiting squad held the lead for the majority of the fourth set as well before CPP made a surge. Down 21-18, the Broncos rallied for four-straight points with kills from Hasen and
Hannah Harrer. At 24-24, Doerner lined a kill down the left sideline and then Moffatt provided the decisive point with a tip just over the Jacks' blockers.
Wednesday's contest marked the end of a three-match homestand. The Broncos will travel to take on Cal State L.A. Friday before a Saturday match at Cal State Dominguez Hills. Both contests start at 7 p.m.
