Box Score | LOS ANGELES – The Cal Poly Pomona volleyball team suffered a 3-1 loss at Cal State L.A. Friday, a result that snapped the Broncos' four-match winning streak.
After falling behind in sets 2-0, CPP rallied for a win in the fourth frame. L.A. eliminated any chance of a Broncos' comeback though as the host squad took the fourth and final set 25-15.
The Broncos and Golden Eagles battled back and forth in what turned out to be an epic first set. CSULA maintained a small lead early on but the visitors pulled even at 18-18 with a kill from
Nicoletta Stork.
Thirteen more occasions of a tie score would take place in that first set before the Golden Eagles would eventually capture a 36-34 win. CPP survived six set points before L.A. got the decisive kills from Bethanee Boggs.
Juniors
Lauren Jones and
Elle Moffatt led the Broncos' attack during that opening frame with five kills apiece. The Golden Eagles carried momentum into the second set, which they started with a 5-0 run and finished with a 25-17 result to take a 2-0 lead in sets.
CPP bounced back in the third, turning a modest 11-7 lead into a 17-7 gap.
Jessica Doerner picked up a couple kills early in that 6-0 run and Stork capped it off with two service aces. Doerner also notched kills on the final two points of the set, which ended at 25-17 in favor of the Broncos.
L.A. rallied to take the fourth set 25-15 behind a strong effort on offense from Kymberly Silveyra, who finished with a match-high 18 kills.
Doerner collected a double-double performance with 14 digs and 13 kills while
Alexa Hasen tallied 11 kills and a career-best eight blocks.
Stork and
Katie Colin recorded a total of 39 assists.
Zoe Herrera and
Tatiana Martinez joined Doerner with double-digit dig totals of 21 and 10 respectively.
