Box Score | ARCATA, Calif. – Playing in its first conference road game of the season, the Cal Poly Pomona women's basketball team captured a 79-71 victory over Humboldt State to extend its winning streak to six.

Combined with last week's 70-65 win against the Jacks at Kellogg Gym, CPP has completed a sweep of the regular season series with Humboldt. At 7-1 overall and 4-0 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA), the Broncos continue to lead the conference standings.

"Humboldt played really well and I was impressed with our team stuck together," CPP head coach Danelle Bishop. "It was a true team effort."

Junior center Jada Blackwell continued her success against the Jacks Saturday, scoring a team-high 21 points with 17 of those coming in the second half. Fellow third-year Ariel Marsh also played a key role for the offense, knocking down four three-pointers in a 17-point effort.

Ashley Lovett and Cydnie Jones added respective point totals of 14 and 10 at Lumberjack Arena to join Blackwell and Marsh in double figures. Lauren Goecke delivered a career-high six assists while Marsh contributed seven boards, also marking a career best.

"Lauren might not get the glory through the stats but she does all the little things right," Bishop said. "She was a key part of this win and so many other players stepped up too."

CPP outrebounded the Jacks 43-36 as Blackwell contributed 12 boards to notch her second double-double performance of the season.

Humboldt State forced some early turnovers from CPP and also took advantage of some extra opportunities at the free throw line. The Jacks knocked down 11 of their 12 attempts there during the first half. After a pair of HSU free throws spread the host's margin to 23-10, the Broncos rallied to quickly cut the lead to eight. Midway through the opening half, Jones pulled down a defensive rebound and sent a long outlet pass up to Marsh, who dropped in a fastbreak layup.

A three-pointer from the Jacks' Danielle Gaumer at the 8:23 mark pushed the HSU advantage back to 13 but CPP responded on the next possession as Marsh drained a three off an assist from Goecke. Marsh finished with 14 points in the first half and Goecke provided two key baskets in the final 90 seconds in the period, including the go-ahead basket to give the Broncos a 37-36 edge going into the break.

The score moved to 55-55 heading into the final 10 minutes of the contest but CPP stepped up its level of play. Through that final stretch, the Broncos limited Humboldt to a 1-for-9 effort from beyond the arc. The Jacks cut the margin to one possession with another Gaumer triple at 1:46 but a Lovett layup started a 6-1 run for CPP to close out the contest.

The Broncos will return to action in 2014 with a Jan. 3 road game at Cal State East Bay.
