Box Score | POMONA, Calif. –With a few minutes left in the first half Saturday, the Cal Poly Pomona men's basketball team trailed UC San Diego by 21 points.

For the Broncos and for their passionate fans at Kellogg Gym, hope was never lost. CPP captured a wild 70-63 victory after scoring 49 points in the second half.

Senior guard DeRonn Scott netted nearly half of the team's second-half total, scoring two in the first and 24 in the second for a new career best of 26.

The Etiwanda native opened the second-half scoring with a three-pointer and that initiated a 16-2 run for the Broncos. Scott went 8-for-9 at the free throw line, raising his season percentage to 88.5.

With the result, CPP now stands at 3-3 overall and 1-1 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA).

The Tritons (4-2, 1-2 CCAA) took a 40-21 lead into halftime after the visitors sank eight of their 11 three-point attempts in the opening period.

CPP didn't waste any opportunities on its comeback trail as the host squad committed just four turnovers in the 40 minutes. That's the lowest single-game turnover total in more than 10 years.

Sophomore Jordan Faison also had a strong shooting night, going 7-for-8 from the field to join Scott in double figures with 16 points.

The Broncos' second-half surge featured two prominent runs, including a 16-2 spurt from the start of the period to the 14:57 mark. Less than two minutes later, CPP started an 18-2 stretch that lasted until the 2:57 mark.

The Broncos scored first in the contest but after the Tritons' Drew Dyer knocked down a three-pointer on the next possession, UCSD built enough momentum that it seemed destined to hold the advantage until the final buzzer.

Late in that 18-2 second-half run for CPP, Barry Bell dropped in the go-ahead basket off a Faison assist with 5:45 on the clock and the Broncos didn't relinquish the lead for the remainder of the contest.

CPP finished with a 32-31 rebounding edge over the Tritons and four Broncos totaled five rebounds apiece with Bell, Faison, Daniel Rodriguez and Quentin Taylor in that group. Four UCSD players finished in double figures as Dyer led the way with 17 points, including a 5-for-8 effort from beyond the arc.

The Broncos will return to action next Saturday, Dec. 14, with a 7:30 p.m. home game against Humboldt State. The Jacks are 4-3 overall and 0-2 in CCAA play.
