Box Score | POMONA, Calif. - With bigger goals still unattained, the Cal Poly Pomona men's basketball team knocked one special item off the list Saturday night at Kellogg Gym.

In front of a energetic crowd of 1,483, the Broncos captured a 74-49 win over Cal State Monterey Bay to clinch at least a share of the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) regular season title.

It marks the fifth conference championship in program history. With one more regular season win - or a loss from second-place Cal State San Bernardino - CPP would secure its first-ever outright CCAA title.

Four of the Broncos' five conference championships - 2005, 2009, 2010 and 2013 - have come during head coach Greg Kamansky's tenure. The program's first title occurred in 1981.

"Settling for a tie is not what we want to do," Kamansky said, "so we've got four games to go and we need to get better. I'm very proud of our guys though and it was a good win in front of great fans."

At 21-1 overall and 17-1 in CCAA play, the first-place Broncos - winners of 12-straight games - are four wins ahead of San Bernardino with four regular season games left to play. CPP fans,
after filling up most of Kellogg Gym Saturday, are anxious to return when the Broncos begin the next homestand in 10 days.

CPP will host Cal State L.A. on Wednesday, Feb. 27 for Faculty and Staff Appreciation Night and then Cal State Dominguez Hills will visit Pomona on Friday, March 1 on "Senior Night" and "First Friday" sponsored by Associated Students, Inc. (ASI).

Saturday's clinching win over the Otters proved to be a perfect ending to Homecoming Week, also an ASI-organized event. The fun-filled week started with Spirit Day on Monday and ended with a CCAA regular season title for the men's basketball team on Saturday night.

Three Broncos scored in double figures, including DeRonn Scott putting up a team-high 15 points off the bench. Senior guard Mitchel Anderson nearly notched another double-double performance as he finished with 14 points and nine rebounds. In the all-time Bronco record books, Anderson currently ranks fourth in points (1,304), second in three-pointers made (175) and third in steals (168).

Mohamed Fall scored the first two baskets of the game Saturday and that started a 20-2 run for the Broncos. The visiting CSUMB squad closed out the first half strong to trim the margin to single digits with a 27-18 score heading into the break.

CPP dominated the second half of play though, outscoring the Otters 47-31 through the final 20 minutes of play. In the final minute of action, Ryan Hall and Francois Tchoyi - both in their debut season for the Broncos - threw down thunderous dunks to put exclamation points on the Homecoming victory.

Up next, CPP will make its final road trip of the regular season with a game Friday at third-place San Francisco State (11-7 CCAA) and a matchup against eighth-place Sonoma State (7-11) Saturday.
