Box Score | POMONA, Calif. - Faced with another four-run deficit in the late innings, the Cal Poly Pomona baseball team rallied Friday against Cal State L.A. to send the game into extra innings and eventually pull out an 8-7 win.

The result evens the series 1-1 and settles the Broncos' marks at 10-3 overall and 3-3 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). It represented the first conference loss for the Golden Eagles, who stand at 7-6 overall and 5-1 through league play.

Seven Broncos posted multi-hit performances in game two of the series and rightfielder Joseph Eusebio led the way with a 4-for-5 effort.

Junior leftfielder Chris Carlson also proved to be clutch, delivering the game-tying hit in the bottom of the eighth to cap off a five-run rally and then drawing a bases-loaded walk in the 10th to bring in the winning run.

Similarly to the start of the series opener, game two featured a pitching duel between starters J.J. Franklin and Omar Jimenez early on. The Golden Eagles broke through for a run in the third off an RBI groundout before adding two more in the sixth off a single by Ryan Cooperstone.

The Broncos got on the board in the bottom of the sixth as Eusebio provided a two-out base hit to bring in Nicholas Cooksey and Carlson. CSULA responded with a four spot in the seventh inning to take a commanding 7-2 edge as that rally featured key doubles from Niko Garcia and Tyler Christian.

Yet again finding a way to bounce back despite facing a big deficit, the Broncos put five runs on the board in the eighth to tie the score at 5-5. Three of those five runs came with two outs as Donald Walter, Jordan Whitman and Carlson knocked three-straight singles to extend the rally.

With CPP freshman reliever Cody Ponce shutting down the Golden Eagles' offense while the game moved into extra innings, the Broncos managed to stage the winning rally in the bottom of the 10th. Nick O'Loughlin reached on an error to lead off and after a Trevor Magno sacrifice bunt, Donald Walter lined a single to move O'Loughlin to third. An intentional walk to Whitman loaded the bases and then, Carlson worked a walk to bring in the winning run.

The Broncos and Golden Eagles will conclude the series with a doubleheader in Los Angeles Saturday starting at 11 a.m.
