POMONA, Calif. - Behind a complete-game shutout performancefrom Kevin Bosson, the Cal Poly Pomona baseball team took a 2-1 series lead over UC San Diego in the early afternoon Saturday.

The Broncos' offense couldn't get going in the series finale though as the Tritons salvaged a doubleheader split with a 5-2 road victory to finish the four-game set.

CPP now stands at 12-7 overall and 5-7 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA), missing a chance to pass UCSD in the standings. The Tritons hold marks of 11-8 overall and 6-6 through league play.

The Broncos will resume conference play on Thursday with a 2 p.m. home game against Cal State Dominguez Hills.

Game 1 Box Score | Broncos 6, Tritons 0

Already one of the CCAA's best in 2013 in terms of wins and strikeouts, Bosson added to those totals on Saturday with a complete-game gem.

He allowed a two-out double in the top of the first to Danny Susdorf but after tossing a wild pitch to allow the UCSD outfielder to move into third, Bosson struck out three-straight betters while settling in nicely.

The Broncos got all six of their runs with two outs in the bottom of the third. Jason Padlo, Chris Carlson and Jordan Whitman tallied three-straight singles and then Donald Walter knocked a two-run double down the leftfield line. Joseph Eusebio capped off the rally with a single that brought Walter around to score.

For Bosson, Saturday's game one win marked the second complete-game shutout of his career. The previous one came in April of last season in a 5-0 home win over SF State.

Game 2 Box Score | Tritons 5, Broncos 2

The momentum from CPP's game one win didn't carry over into the series finale as the Tritons jumped out to a 5-0 lead, forcing Broncos' right-handed starter Erick Ruvalcaba out of the game after 2.1 innings and six hits allowed. UCSD first baseman Richard Seigel provided two RBI out of those five early runs.

The Broncos got their first run of the game in the third when Whitman singled to score Bo Walter. CPP added another score in the sixth as Trevor Magno knocked an RBI single through the right side to allow Donald Walter to cross home plate.

The Tritons' bullpen kept the margin intact though and the visiting relievers contributed 4.2 innings without allowing an earned run to CPP during the series finale. Bo Walter, who is batting .386 as one of the Broncos' offensive leaders, had his 13-game hit streak snapped in game two Saturday as he went 0-for-2 with a sacrifice bunt, a walk and a run scored.
