CARSON, Calif. -
The Cal Poly Pomona baseball team took a 2-1 series lead over Cal State Dominguez Hills Saturday afternoon with a doubleheader sweep highlighted by two starts and two wins from senior right-hander Kevin Bosson.

The pitching and offense were on cue for CPP as they outscored the Toros 22-2 during the two games.

With the two wins on Saturday, the Broncos now stand at 14-8 overall and 7-8 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). The Toros hold marks of 10-10 overall and 7-8 in league play.

The series finale will be held Sunday at Scolinos Field at 11 a.m.

Game 1 Box Score | Broncos 14, Toros 2

Having already established himself as the ace of the Broncos' pitching rotation, Bosson entered game one on Saturday with a record of 4-1.

In seven innings of work, he allowed just one earned run and struck out nine batters including striking out the side in the bottom of the fifth. The Toros would only go on to score one more run in the contest as CPP cruised to a 14-2 win.

The Broncos got on the board courtesy of a three-run homerun by senior outfielder Jordan Whitman in the top of the first inning. Whitman ended game one with three hits and four runs scored.

CPP put the game away early following a six-run third inning that saw four different Broncos driving in runs.

Game 2 Box Score | Broncos 8, Toros 0

One start was not enough for Bosson Saturday as he began on the hill for the Broncos in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader.

With the 8-0 win over CSUDH, Bosson recorded two more victories and improved his record to 6-1 on the year. He held the Toros to just one hit in three innings of work.

Freshman right-hander Cody Ponce came on and pitched the last four innings of the game as CPP shutout CSUDH 8-0. Ponce allowed just one hit and allowed no walks in relief.

The Broncos' offense continued where they left off as they put up three runs in the top of the first. Whitman got the scoring started with a one-out double that scored Trevor Magno.

Senior designated hitter Donald Walter and junior outfielder Joseph Eusebio each drove in two runs for CPP. Eusebio's two-run single in the top of the fifth capped off a four-run inning for the Broncos.
