Box Score | SEASIDE, Calif. - The Cal Poly Pomona baseball team suffered a 9-4 loss Friday in the series opener at Cal State Monterey Bay.

The Broncos trailed by a 4-3 deficit after three complete innings but the Otters' offense rallied in the middle innings en route to the five-run victory.

CPP falls to 24-19 overall while the Otters improve to 27-12. Monterey Bay got a strong game one pitching performance from Chris Daniels, who went eight innings and allowed just three earned runs.

The Broncos jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first after Jordan Whitman provided an RBI single off a bunt and Bo Walter followed with a run batted in of his own on a groundball out.

Monterey Bay managed to score nine of the game's next 11 runs, including a two-RBI double from Mark Hurley and a two-RBI homer by Brian Haggett to put the game out of reach in the later innings.

Despite the loss, the CPP offense generated at least one hit through eight of the team's nine lineup spots. Junior infielder Andrew Stein went 2-for-2 at the plate with a walk out of the No. 9 spot in the Broncos' order.

CPP and the Otters will continue the series on Saturday with a doubleheader starting at 11 a.m.
