Box Score | LOS ANGELES – The Cal Poly Pomona men's soccer team held its ground on the road against Cal State L.A. - a team ranked at No. 11 nationally - but the Broncos' couldn't over overcome allowing a first-half goal and fell 1-0.

The Broncos fall to 2-1 overall and 0-1 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) while the Golden Eagles stay undefeated at 3-0 overall and 1-0 in league play. CPP will return to action Sunday with a 2 p.m. game at Cal State Dominguez Hills.

Despite CSULA building an 11-6 advantage in shots Friday, the Broncos put just one fewer attempt on goal. The Golden Eagles got on the scoreboard at the 28:59 mark with a throw-in initiating the scoring play. After receiving the ball from Daniel Rodriguez, Juan Ochoa lifted a high-arc shot from 25 yards that sailed over the head of CPP goalkeeper Andrew Todd and into the left side of the net.

The Broncos' squad settled itself at halftime and entered the second period with even more energy and consistency. One of the team's best offensive chances came in the 68th minute, when senior Brandon Cortez dribbled into space on the left side of the box and lined a shot toward the center of the net before the Golden Eagles' netminder Mike Beigarten made a fine stop to keep the score at 1-0.

With just under minutes to play in regulation, Abiel Coronado drove a sharp pass into the right side of the box but it bounced through the zone, just out of the reach of Daniel Garcia Jr. charging into the open space.

Todd finished with four saves on the day to match the Golden Eagles' Beigarten. Sunday's opponent for CPP - Cal State Dominguez Hills - is taking a 2-0 record into a Friday night matchup with No. 25 UC San Diego.
