Box Score | CARSON, Calif. – Bending but never breaking through the first three matches of 2013, the defense of the Cal Poly Pomona women's soccer team had put together three-straight shutouts to start the season.
The scoreless streak stopped at 335 minutes Sunday in Carson as Cal State Dominguez Hills rallied for a comeback overtime win to hand the Broncos their first loss of the year. CPP, now 3-1 overall and 1-1 in conference play, will return to action Friday at Cal State San Bernardino.
The Broncos outshot the Toros on Sunday, 15-9, but couldn't keep Dominguez off the scoreboard late in the match.
CPP struck first with a goal in the 16th minute.
Indra Arteaga slipped a through ball into the box for
Alison Sauve, who lined a shot past Toros' goalkeeper Jennifer Ackerly into the back of the net.
It marked Sauve's sixth career goal and the assist serves as the first pointn of Arteaga's Bronco tenure.
The 1-0 lead held until the 65:20 mark, when Dominguez Hills' forward Janelle McGee dribbled past the CPP defense and lobbed a shot over the head of Broncos' netminder
Sarah Rohman to tie the score.
The two squads took the 1-1 score into overtime but less than three minutes into the first extra period, McGee struck again for the game winner.
In 2012, the Broncos got plenty of extra time against their next opponent - Cal State San Bernardino. Between the two regular season meetings, the squads played three extra periods. CPP went 0-1-1 in those matches. This season, the Coyotes are tied with the Broncos in the standings at 1-1 in league play.
